The Festival of Lights is three days away, but the halflings of Hilltop Grove have a serious problem. The Fairy Tree and their beloved dryad have fallen ill. Without them, the festival is in jeopardy.
This adventure is designed to be played by level 1 characters in about 3 hours depending on the size and experience of your group and how engaged they get with the social parts. There is a minimal amount of combat and an effort has been made to give options to avoid some of the combat while still giving them an opportunity to sling some dice and use their character abilities. If you need inspiration for the intended themes, look to Netflix's The Dragon Prince or Studio Ghibli movies like Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
The 5e version can be played entirely with the free Basic Rules.
This adventure is designed to be used as a bridge between the free Spelljammer Academy on DND Beyond and the Light of Xaryxis adventure that is included in the Spelljammer: Adventures in Space book. If the players know they are in a Spelljammer campaign they will be itching to have their own spelljamming ship as soon as possible. For me, following the two mentioned adventures did not fulfill that desire in a timely fashion.
Completing this will give PCs an opportunity to start the Light of Xaryxis with their own spelljamming ship, as well as give a clear path that leads from Spelljammer Academy into Light of Xaryxis.
It is recommended for a party of level 5 characters and can ideally be completed in a single session.
Play as a master hunter in The Black Hack 2e. The Ranger is a specialist at ranged combat, surviving in dangerous environments, and animal handling.
The Clockwork Door is a system neutral 2-page dungeon. It can be used as a portal to get from the mortal world to Fairy/Feywild/Elfland and is intended to be completed in a single session.
The Viscount Tanlin Copperstar, a half-gnome half-fairy, built The Clockwork Door so that he could take his wife and daughter to visit their extended family in Fairy. In there absence, looters have moved in, pets have gotten out, and interdimensional hitchhikers stowed away.
